For a few days, I had this wierd issue of mouse jumping across paragraphs when typing something really fast. So if I'm typing on line 5 and the mouse pointer is on line 1, after a while the cursor jumps to line 1 and I find myself typing on line 1, thus spoiling what I already typed. Googling did not help much, as the control panel mouse settings differ from make to make. Here's what I did finally on my Dell Notebook Latitude E5400.
Control Panel -> Mouse -> Hardware -> Dell Touchpad -> Properties -> Advanced Settings -> Wheel Detection = Look for wheel and Uncheck "Fast Initialization".
